Elk Grove client and columnist
A gentleman in Elk Grove needed some help when his wife traveled to visit their new grandson.  He told us that, good or bad, he was going to write a column about our care, in the Elk Grove Citizen.  We took the challenge, and here is his article, which he titled, "Support for home - more than an angel".  Some of the text is quoted here:

As regular readers know, I have MS and due to physical restrictions I was unable to go with Ginger for her two-week visit/bonding with our grandchildren.  This presented a little problem in that I have some mobility but require a little assistance in transferring in and out of bed, changing clothes and someone needs to be available should I fall.  About a month before Ginger’s trip, final arrangements hadn’t been worked out and we were looking for temporary in-home care.

The Senior Center had a community services faire and picnic in Beeman Park.  Spread throughout the park there were a number of vendors that offered various services for seniors.  Little did we know we would find an angel.  BERT CAVE & SIEW PHENG TUNG, owners of SUPPORT FOR HOME were there to advise visitors of their services.  Their mission is “To be the most trusted in-home agency by our clients, their families, health professionals and plan of care partners.” Well, okay it sounds good but what really is the true story?

About a week before Ginger’s departure, Bert & Siew came over to our house to make final arrangements.  They said, we have a great young lady that can meet your requirements, (I’m a big boy, 6’4” and just under 300 pounds).  They introduced us to DESIRAE BLAND who for 15 days would be there to assist me out of bed and dress me each morning.  I was a little apprehensive, but worries and concerns were all cast aside after the first morning.  She was very professional and able to provide the assistance that I needed.

If you are looking for assistance that requires some type of in-home care I would highly recommend that you look into interviewing Bert & Siew and SUPPORT FOR HOME.  I am sure that you will be pleased with what they have to offer.  You can review all their services at their Web site, www.supportforhome.com and can contact them at 916-482-8484.  They provided angel services – thank you!

Family, South Land Park client
"On behalf of the entire ... family, we want to thank you so much for being such a careful and attentive caregiver for my dad ...  He always speaks so glowingly and appreciatively of the time you spend with him.  His stories are always full of descriptive details about how you make his days comfortable and interesting and affirming...  You have freed him (and us) from our anxiety about his daily care and have become integral to his physical and mental health.  At his point in life, there is a fine line that divides the desire to keep going from the boredom that leads to a slow and sad drifting away.  My dad ... enjoys each and every day now and you are one of the main reasons this is so."

Anita, Natomas
"I am emailing you right now (sunday eve) in hopes that you two are having a quiet evening off and I know, if I ring you, you will pick up the phone despite the day and the hour.  :)"  NOTE from Support For Home: Yes, we still answer our phone 24 hours per day.  No answering service for us!

Joanne, Woodland
"Thank you very much for meeting with us Thursday to discuss care for our mother.  We believe you offered the most professional support plan and we are anxious for you to begin services..."  NOTE from Support For Home: We focus on a comprehensive plan of care, not just the services we provide.  We identify other critical providers in the circle of care.

Jennifer, El Macero
"All of the caregivers that you have provided to care for our father and Linda have been extremely professional, well trained, kind, compassionate and caring.  Our whole family has appreciated your and their help.  [AF] was wonderful, [BS] is not only a good nurse but an amazing cook and very neat.  [AR] has been a star.  She has understood the best how to handle my father."

Victoria, Davis
"I just wanted to write to you after [PI]'s first day to say how absolutely delighted both Mom and I are with her.  She is a lovely person - smart, kind, charming...  Mom took to [her] immediately - in fact she almost cried when [PI] said she had to go for the day, but cheered up when she found out she'd be back on Thursday.  Wow!"

Pete, Davis
"Thanks for your quick turnaround on our urgent request for greatly expanded hours for my Mom.  Paul and I were both very impressed with the response of your team, and the willingness of [MC] to expand her schedule for the next few weeks.  Mom really perked up when [MC] came this afternoon."

Eva, daughter in Stockton
"In his individual conversations with each of us children and grandchildren, he is very positive of [BD]'s care and companionship.  We can see that he is very outgoing and he wants to talk so much now.  We are all so pleased with Support For Home!"

Theresa, Woodland
"This may be a challenge.  Glad to have some people with experience deal with Mother directly."  NOTE from Support For Home: The most devoted family is challenged in dealing with dementia.  We are committed to being a helpful extension of that family.

Larrie, Sacramento
"Things went beautifully yesterday.  Mom was almost sick with anxiety before [her Home Care Aide] arrived, but was soon at ease.  Mom conceded last night that it might be a good thing to have [PI] around as a companion...  [The Social Worker] said you guys were good... she was spot on."

Wendy, daughter in Oregon
"As I said before, you have been a life saver.  The caregivers you have provided our family have been only the best."

Anita, Natomas
"We were so thankful to have her here while we did, her hard work and great attitude were a huge blessing!"  NOTE from Support For Home: Our job was to help her dad get well after hip replacement.  We did, and he did!

Larrie, Sacramento / Davis
"You have been so supportive, and I am deeply grateful."
