Rebuilding Together Sacramento - Home Safety Services Home Safety Services is an affordable resource available to individuals and families who want to live independently and safely in their own homes. Safety modifications include grab bars, customized exterior and interior railings, toilet risers, hand-held shower sprayers, interior and exterior ramps, anti-skid protection, level door handles and more. Home Safety Services is a division of Rebuilding Together, Sacramento, a nationally renowned non-profit organization, that has modified thousands of homes in the Sacramento region. Services are provided by experienced and trained hardware installers.
Senior Care Solutions Senior Care Solutions provides free assistance with placement and care options allowing the client and families to make informed decisions. The professional staff is knowledgeable in the areas of non-medical in-home care, independent living, residential care (RCFE), intermediate care (ICF), skilled nursing (SNF).

Yolo Adult Day Health Center This is a great program in Yolo County "specifically designed for adults struggling to function independently. [Their] diverse program of health, social and rehabilitation services promote the well-being, dignity and self-esteem of an individual." The goal of the Yolo Adult Day Health Center is "to maximize independence, improve management of chronic symptoms, prevent hospitalization and/or premature nursing home placement and provide support and relief to caregivers."
National Association of Area Agencies on Aging The N4A is the umbrella organization for 655 area agencies on aging (AAAs) and more than 230 Title VI Native American aging programs in the US. The mission of AAAs and Title VI programs is to provide services which make it possible for older individuals to remain in their home, preserving their independence and dignity. These agencies coordinate and support a wide range of home- and community-based services, including information and referral, home-delivered and congregate meals, transportation, employment services, senior centers, adult day care and a long-term care ombudsman program. - Sacramento, Yolo, Placer Counties link - El Dorado County link
Sacramento Network of Care Network of Care was created with a California Department of Aging innovation grant. The project is part of a broad effort by Sacramento county to improve and better coordinate long-term care services locally, for the elderly and people with disabilities, as well as their caregivers and service providers.
National Private Duty Association NPDA enhances the strength and professionalism of non-medical / private duty home care providers through education and best practices. Its goals include setting industry standards and best practices for non-medical home care, fostering ethical business practices, educating public about the differences in private duty models.
National Institute on Aging NIA is one of the institutes within the NIH. The Institute leads a broad scientific effort to understand the nature of aging and to extend the healthy, active years of life. NIA is the primary federal agency for Alzheimer's disease research.
Healthy Aging This is the official site of the Healthy Aging® Campaign - a national on-going health promotion designed to broaden awareness of the positive aspects of aging and to provide information and inspiration for adults, age 50+, to improve their physical, mental, social, and financial fitness.
Senior Drivers This site includes tips and guides on staying safe on the road if the senior continues to drive, transitioning to the next phase of giving up the keys to someone else to drive them. It includes resources on alternative transportation providers.
Meals on Wheels The Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) is a member organization, and its membership comprises mostly senior nutrition programs in the United States. MOWAA member programs provide nutritious meals and other nutritional services to the elderly, homebound, disabled, frail, or at risk. These services significantly improve the quality of life and health of the indviduals they serve and postpone early institutionalization. - Sacramento County link
The Senior Connection The Senior Connection is a free community service of Eskaton. It offers information and assistance in identifying and accessing resources for older adults, including information on health care, housing, and social services in the greater Sacramento area.
Alzheimer's Association The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. Its mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Senior Daily Living This site has a good newsletter and articles on a wide variety of topics important to seniors.
A Caring Colleague in Palm Springs Some Sacramento area families spend a portion of the winter in warmer territory, such as Palm Springs. We know one good agency in that area, with a very committed, professional owner, Lisa Marie Blaskie. She also has a very good blog, called Caregiving 101.
